GENUINE FAKES

Genuine Fakes is a series of four zines that explore the use of repetition, imitiation and sampling are as a core means of production. The zines combine writing and quotes and an internet assembled image archive in an exploration of ideas surrounding authenticity in the internet age.

Volume 1: The Mona Lisa A Version of Verisons examines “the most parodied work of art in the world” and the effect that its many iterations have had on how we observe the original.

Volume 2: American Gothic Iconoclasm to Icon looks at the famous work’s transition from an iconoclastic satire, to an iconic portrayal of the American working class and then on to its dismantling and re-assembly in a photos, memes and tributes.

Volume 3: The Last Supper Lost in Translation focuses on a famous image, restored using a copy as a reference that goes on to inspire subsequent copies of the original copy.
